Product Description

The Sparkling Gourami (Trichopsis pumila) is a tiny but captivating freshwater fish known for its iridescent “sparkling” body that shimmers in the light as it moves. Despite its small size, it displays complex behaviour and subtle personality, making it a favourite for nano aquariums and planted tanks.

This peaceful species thrives in heavily planted, low-flow environments where it can explore vegetation and rest among leaves. Males are known for producing soft croaking or clicking sounds during courtship and territorial displays, adding a unique auditory element to the aquarium.

Care Guide

  • Scientific Name: Trichopsis pumila
  • Common Name: Sparkling Gourami
  • Care Level: Easy
  • Temperament: Peaceful
  • Diet: Omnivore (micro pellets, crushed flakes, frozen brine shrimp, daphnia, bloodworm)
  • Minimum Tank Size: 30–40 litres
  • Water Temperature: 24–28°C
  • pH: 6.0–7.5
  • Maximum Size: 3–4cm

Feeding

Feed small, frequent meals of high-quality micro foods. Supplement with frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp and daphnia to support health and colour.

Aquarium Setup

Best kept in calm, heavily planted aquariums with floating plants and minimal water movement. Dim lighting and dense vegetation help reduce stress and encourage natural behaviour.

Compatibility

Ideal for nano community tanks with small peaceful fish such as pygmy corydoras, small rasboras, chili rasboras, and shrimp (with caution in breeding setups). Avoid larger or aggressive tankmates.

A delicate and enchanting nano fish, the Sparkling Gourami adds shimmer, subtle colour, and fascinating behaviour to small aquariums, making it perfect for peaceful planted setups.
