The Gold Midas Blenny (Ecsenius midas) is a vibrant and charismatic reef fish, renowned for its brilliant golden-yellow colour and graceful, eel-like swimming style. Unlike many blennies that spend most of their time perched on rocks, the Midas Blenny is an active open-water swimmer that regularly darts through the aquarium before retreating to its favourite cave.
Its inquisitive personality and striking colour make it an exceptional centrepiece for reef and marine community aquariums. Hardy once established, the Gold Midas Blenny adapts well to captive life and is suitable for both intermediate and experienced marine aquarists.
Feed two to three times daily with a varied diet of high-quality marine pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, and algae-based foods. Although it will graze naturally, regular feeding is important to maintain its vibrant golden colour.
Provide a mature marine aquarium with plenty of live rock, caves, and crevices for shelter. Leave ample open swimming space, as this species spends much of its time in the water column. Stable water quality and moderate water movement are ideal.
