The Dwarf Gourami (Trichogaster lalius) is a vibrant and peaceful freshwater fish known for its striking colouration and calm behaviour. With shimmering blue, red, or orange tones depending on the variety, it is a standout feature fish in community and planted aquariums.
This species is well-suited to smaller community setups and thrives in heavily planted aquariums where it can explore, rest among foliage, and build bubble nests at the surface. Males are especially colourful and may display territorial behaviour during breeding.
Feed a varied diet including high-quality flakes or pellets supplemented with frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworm to enhance colour and health.
Prefers calm, well-planted aquariums with floating plants to support bubble nesting behaviour. Gentle filtration and low water flow are ideal. Provide hiding places to reduce stress and aggression between males.
Suitable for peaceful community fish such as tetras, rasboras, corydoras, and small peaceful bottom dwellers. Avoid fin-nipping species or overly aggressive tankmates.
A beautifully coloured and calm centerpiece fish, the Dwarf Gourami adds elegance, personality, and movement to freshwater aquariums while remaining easy to care for in the right setup.
