The Pygmy Cory (Corydoras pygmaeus) is one of the smallest and most popular Corydoras species in the aquarium hobby. Known for its tiny size, shimmering silver body, and distinctive horizontal stripe, this peaceful schooling fish is perfect for nano aquariums, shrimp tanks, and planted community setups.
Unlike larger cory species, Pygmy Corys spend time swimming mid-water as well as exploring the substrate, creating constant movement throughout all levels of the aquarium. Their calm nature and small size make them an excellent choice for compact aquascapes.
Feed small sinking foods daily such as micro pellets and fine wafers. Supplement with frozen daphnia, brine shrimp, and crushed flakes to ensure balanced nutrition.
Best kept in groups of 6 or more in well-planted aquariums with fine sand or smooth substrate. Provide plants, driftwood, and gentle flow. Their active swimming behaviour makes open midwater space beneficial.
Ideal for nano community tanks with shrimp, small tetras, rasboras, guppies, and other peaceful micro fish. Avoid aggressive or much larger tankmates.
A charming micro schooling fish, the Pygmy Cory adds constant gentle movement and activity to nano aquariums while remaining peaceful and incredibly easy to care for.
