The Purple Chromis, otherwise known as the Fusilier Damsel, is only occasionally found in the aquarium trade. They can be kept in groups, and they are very peaceful. Behavior is similar to Anthias, but they are not as delicate. Colouration of the the Purple Chromis is dependent on activity, and will flash red and green colors when feeding for example. This fish is usually greyish-green to purple, with a yellow patch on the rear of the dorsal fin as well as a small bright blue spot on the rear of the gill cover.  Unlike many other shoaling fish, these damsels will not single out and focus aggression on the weakest individual. The Purple Chromis is a social animal and does best when kept with others of the same species. A fast swimming fish that will readily eat most foods offered.

This species is a keen eater and should be fed 2-3 times daily on a diet consisting of meaty items rich in animal protein, herbivore preparations such as marine algae and spirulina, as well as flaked foods.
